Plötzensee is a favorite place during the summer for Berliners since the 1920's.
It is a lake and park with a man-made beach in the middle of the city. Although it has been a public bath since 1850, until the 1920's it became a public park.
It is located between the areas of Mitte and Wedding, near the lake there is a memorial for thousands killed during the Nazi regime at the Plötzensee Prison built on the 19th century.
The space consists of 40,000m2 for sunbathing, with 15,000m2 of sand beach.
It is open for visitors (when the weather allows it and from May to September) from monday to sunday, from 9am to 7pm.
The regular entrance price is 4euros. (2.50euros for students).
Don't miss the complete experience of being at a german beach by renting a "Strandkörbe", a beach basket, to seat, relax and enjoy the view.
