The name comes from what used to be the point of intersection with the old road to Potsdam. After WWII it became an abandoned empty space.
Since 1990 it has been Berlin's largest building site. An international team of architects, headed by Renzo Piano, gathered to design 19 buildings for the new Potsdamer Platz district.
Important buildings and urban spaces are located in this 60 hectares center which belongs to Daimler and Sony among others and were designed by renowned architects like Richard Rogers, Rafael Moneo, Helmut Jahn and again Renzo Piano.
